Is Antigone a Strong Girl?

Since Antigone has a fighting, fiery, and stubborn spirit she has the courage to stand up for Polyneices and his right as a family member to have a grave. However differed in her ideas and decrees as king of Thebes that Polyneices was a traitor and no longer deserved to be buried. Her family was all Antigone had left which explains why she was so protective over her brother's body. Causing Antigone to go against the status quo of women from that time period by disobeying her uncle in order to inter the body fully knowing this will result in her own death. Antigone would rather die than let her brother, Polyneices go unburied bearing more shame for the whole family. She thinks the cause is worth fighting for and believes in herself to accomplish this task.

Through this first chapter we have seen her tenacious and passionate personality, she will not give up until her task is completed. She is determined to give Polyneices a proper burial just like their brother Eteocles received. When she is condemned to die at least it will be a Noble death for faithfulness toward her kin.

Sarah: I liked how you brought in the status quo of women of the times. Very thorough answer.

By the way, I love the sidebars: the Antigone pic and the survey. How creative.
